My Personal Bio:
I'm 46, married, and the father of a 15-year-old daughter. I was fairly active in high school (track, cross-country), and kept up some fitness during college and grad school. I even started doing road races during grad school, and continued on through my first couple of years after starting my career as an engineer. Then life got in the way, and I began slacking off. Due to my fitness transformation, I am now more fit, with a resting heart rate of 42, and feel great! My fitness transformation has even helped me in my personal life; I met my wife, Kristie, because a mutual friend knew of our common interest in running.
My Transformation Story:
When I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, I wasn't doing anything active. My weight ballooned to almost 210 lb., and I began smoking. Things weren't looking too good, but then a difficult divorce and my transformation to a full-time single dad convinced me that I needed to find a stress outlet. I began running at lunchtime and soon began entering local road races. I joined a marathon training group, and ran and finished my first marathon at age 40. I also began training in karate along the way, and even though there were some setbacks, I earned my 1st degree black belt in American Kenpo karate in 2006. Last year, I ran in the Boston Marathon. I joined Million Dollar Body and became a coach because I realized that even though I was running and staying active through karate, I still didn't have the level of fitness that I needed or wanted. I am mainly interested in weight loss and control, and improving my core and upper body strength, areas that are usually neglected by runners. I've encouraged my daughter to exercise, and she's even done a few of the P90X ab workouts!
